PURCHASE AND DOWNLOAD RIGHT NOW!! Big Sky Debate is pleased to release its March 2009 Public Forum resources on the No Child Left Behind topic. The resolution, released on February 1, 2009 by the National Forensics League, is: Resolved: That, on balance, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 has improved academic achievement in the United States. The index for our resources is here and a list of briefs for this book appears below the fold. Our research staff found a variety of interesting arguments on both the pro and con for this resolution. Among the strongest: - PRO: The evidence is fairly clear that No Child Left Behind, despite the criticism, has increased academic achievement. Testing results prove the NCLB seems particularly effective in elementary schools.
- PRO: No Child Left Behind has put a focus, perhaps for the first time, on subgroups in educational testing. Districts can't hide poor results by small groups by simply reporting averages.
- CON: Any evidence that claims that NCLB had increased achievement is flawed because states have lowered standards to meet the NCLB laws.
- CON: Achievement scores are misleading as the curriculum has been stripped of science, social studies, art and music.
Good luck this month! As always, our individua issues of Public Forum resources are just $12!
